At its heart, worship is our response to the unsurpassed worth of God. Every person worships something. We all assign ultimate value to whatever we believe will give us identity, security, joy, or meaning. Christian worship is the lifelong practice of turning our hearts away from lesser gods and continually ascribing ultimate worth to the One who alone is worthy. Every gathering, every song, and every element of the service should help people behold God's greatness and respond with faith, gratitude, and awe.

Worship does more than express our love for God—it forms us into the people He is creating us to become. As we sing, pray, confess, listen to Scripture, and gather around the Lord's Table, God reshapes our minds, our affections, and our desires. True worship engages the whole person: our minds with truth, our hearts with wonder, and our wills with obedience. I believe worship is one of God's primary means of transforming His people into the likeness of Christ.

The primary instrument on Sunday morning is not the worship team—it is the gathered church. My role is to support and encourage congregational participation rather than replace it with performance. That conviction shapes nearly every decision I make, from song selection and arrangements to keys, tempos, production, and stage presence. Excellence matters because it removes distractions, but the goal is never to showcase the platform. Music is most beautiful when an entire congregation joins together with one voice to proclaim the worth of God.

Scripture is the foundation of Christian worship, but God has also given us beauty as a means of awakening wonder. Music, poetry, visual art, silence, liturgy, and storytelling all become faithful servants of the gospel when they help people see Christ more clearly. Throughout my ministry I have often described music as a signpost. A signpost is important, but it is never the destination. Our calling is not to draw attention to ourselves or our artistry, but to point beyond ourselves to the beauty, truth, and goodness of Christ.

I have been deeply shaped by the historic practices of the Church while also embracing the creative gifts of the present generation. Scripture reading, confession, creeds, prayer, weekly communion, and the rhythms of the Church calendar remind us that we belong to a much larger story than ourselves. At the same time, every generation must proclaim those timeless truths in language, music, and artistic expression that people can genuinely understand. Faithful worship honors both the wisdom of the past and the opportunities of the present.

No amount of planning, musical excellence, or creative preparation can manufacture genuine worship. Those things deserve our very best, but they are never substitutes for the work of the Holy Spirit. My responsibility is to prepare faithfully, pray expectantly, and lead humbly, trusting that God alone gives life to our worship. My hope is that people leave our gatherings thinking less about the service itself and more about the greatness of God.
